Soca Senior Players representing the IWFF England

Our Super 6 in the 70+ squad

Saturday the 20th March saw Norway, England and the host nation Sweden meet in a Tri-Nation walking football tournament with teams competing in four categories, Ladies Over 40's and men's 50's, 60's and 70's age groups.

After a flag bearing opening procession and the singing of National Anthems 160 players competed over the six hours in an atmosphere of friendliness and camaraderie.

Norwich Soca Seniors were well represented in the England side with no less than six members of the 70's squad Mike Ottolangui, Brian Russell, Rodney Smith, Dave Ferrido, Keith Starr and goalkeeper Alan Gibbs. England came second in the age group tournament winning two matches, drawing one and losing one finishing with 7 points to Sweden's 9 points and despite managing a comfortable 2-0 win over Sweden. England captain Mike Ottolangui was deservedly named as Player of the Tournament.

The England 60's team featured three Soca Seniors players, Richard Nicholls, Ray de Keyser and goalkeeper Kevin Chadwick. The 60's won their tournament only conceding one goal in their four matches. The England 50's also won their tournament group.

With all the teams staying in the same hotels players were able to mingle together and have time chatting together over a beer as fortunately every Norwegian and Swede speak perfect English! A great weekend was enjoyed in a well organised tournament and every player is looking forward to the World Championship in Florence in July.

Thanks to Keith Starr for the review
